CUMBERNAULD resident, Neil Wotherspoon, prepares for his fundraiser Race Night, for International charity, Samaritan's Purse. Since the tickets went on sale Neil has seen them fly out of the stalls and it’s now or never to get your tickets!

Neil is fundraising to help him travel to Ukraine, with Christian Charity, Samaritan's Purse. Whilst in Ukraine, Neil will work with children affected by illness, teaching them and giving them a social experience, not normally received.

Neil's efforts have been continually well praised from Samaritan's Purse who regularly welcomes updates from Neil on his International mission.

Chris Thomson, Scottish Regional Manager for Samaritan's Purse said: "Neil is very excited about the trip and he still needs some help in his fundraising. We are heading to a training event on Saturday in Nottingham to meet the team and discuss our programme and im know that Neil’s experience and enthusiasm will be a great help to the planning and also to the involvement he will have with kids and overseas partners."

So far in his journey Neil has walked over seven miles, for ‘Turn On The Tap’ and appealed to people's good sides, for online donations. However, Neil is once again going offline to raise funds for the charity he got involved with through his work's Christmas appeal.

His next two events will be a Race Night and a sponsored back wax. Further information on the wax will follow, here on Cumbernauldnl.info, however it’s a sprint to the finish as Race Night tickets fly out of the stalls.

Commenting, to Cumbernauldnl.info, Mr Wotherspoon said: "I have written to 119 local businesses this week to ask for donations for prizes at the race night. I am hopeful there will be a good mix of gifts and vouchers on the night, not to mention a few bottles too! I'm being supported by friends and family to organise the race night which is making things easier.

I have raised a third of my total - over £365 with some offline donations still to come in for the walk and of course, the wax! Tickets for the Race Night are £5 and if folks are unable to attend they can buy and name a horse for £5. I'm still looking for donations for raffle prizes on the night, and people can get in touch if they have anything they'd like to donate.

I get really excited when people get in touch as it reminds me how soon I go away to Ukraine. This Saturday I go to the University of Nottingham with Chris Thomson, Regional Manager of Scotland, for the Samaritan's Purse, to meet the other volunteers who are going. We will be having training on HIV, working with children with disabilities and learning about Ukrainian culture. I can't wait to meet everyone from the Discovery Team. I have completed all my immunisations for the trip and can't wait to go!"

Neil's Race Night will take place at Cumbernauld Village's Hattrix Soccer Complex, on Friday 8th July, between 7.30pm and 1am. Tickets are priced at £5 and you can email Neil at neileo@360.com, for more information or tickets.
