NHS Lanarkshire is to hold a memorial service for families who have lost a child, in six days’ time, at Wishaw General Hospital.

The service, which will be led by the Chaplains at the hospital, will start at 1pm, on Saturday 5th November.

Working with charity, Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Support (SANDS), NHS Lanarkshire are organising the service to offer a response to the depression and grief caused by the trauma of losing a child.

Commenting, Rosemary Murphy, NHS Lanarkshire supervisor of midwives, said: “The memorial service is for parents who have experienced this terrible loss, and allows them to come together and acknowledge the lives of their babies.”

SANDS and NHS Lanarkshire regularly meet at the Wishaw General Maternity Unit, to provide one to one counselling or advice.

NHS Lanarkshire's Miscarriage Support Group meets on the first Monday of every month between 7pm and 9pm in the Quiet Room next to the Wishaw General Chapel, and SANDS meets on the second Monday of every month in the Chapel Quiet Room at Wishaw General Hospital also.

For more information on the Miscarriage Support Group you should contact the Maternity Unit at Wishaw General Hospital on 01698 361100. And for anyone wishing to contact the Lanarkshire branch of SANDS you can contact Tricia or Hazel on 07757 673 459/57.
