CUMBERNAULD’S Blockbuster store has once again escaped the closure list by the company’s administrators.

Cumbernauld’s Blockbuster store, located on South Muirfield Road, has missed being a target for closure twice now, since the Blockbusters UK chain went into administration last month.

Administrators Deloitte have confirmed that the Cumbernauld chain will continue to trade, as 164 other stores close and 49 other stores are bought over by supermarket chain Morrisons.

Lee Manning, joint administrator, said: “We have continued to review the performance of individual stores since our appointment a month ago and have concluded that further closures are necessary in order to restructure the company for sale.”

The announcement is yet another event since the once first-flight chain entered administration on 16th January, 2013.

Lee added: “We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time and we are also grateful for the continued support of customers. We are in discussions with a number of parties interested in purchasing all or parts of the business and will update on progress in due course.”
