PLANS for a new state-of-the-art Kilsyth Community Health Centre are another step closer to reality.
The Outline Business Case for the development was approved by the NHS Lanarkshire Board at its meeting on Wednesday 27 February 2013.
The plans are for a purpose-built, modern community health centre providing a wide range of services including GP practice, mental health, podiatry, physiotherapy, speech and language, NHS dental practice and other local clinics.
The development, which will cost in the region of £7.8 million, will be located next to the swimming pool in Kilsyth town centre.
It will be around double the size of the existing health centre at Burngreen Park, which it will replace.
NHS Lanarkshire’s chief executive Ian Ross said: “Our aim is to deliver a first class health centre for the people of Kilsyth. This is an exciting development that will offer excellent premises for a wide range of local health services including additional local services. Approval of the Outline Business Case marks another significant step towards the development of the new facility.”
A planning application for the health centre was submitted to North Lanarkshire Council in December 2012. It is expect to be considered by the Planning Committee in March.
Extensive work has taken place with staff and other stakeholders to ensure the building meets the needs of patients and delivers high quality community health services.
Car parking has also been carefully considered so that the planning application includes sufficient spaces to meet the needs of patients and staff visiting new facility.
The new Kilsyth Community Health Centre is part of a package of proposals to develop three new health centres in East Kilbride, Wishaw and Kilsyth. NHS Lanarkshire will now submit the Outline Business Case for the three developments to the Scottish Government by 5 March 2013.
If the projects are given approval to proceed, NHS Lanarkshire hopes to complete the new Kilsyth Community Health Centre during 2015.
