SNP MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, Jamie Hepburn is calling for North Lanarkshire Council to reverse a decision that they have seemingly made to ban dog training clubs from using council facilities.

Mr Hepburn said: “North Lanarkshire Council deserve to be in the dog house for this barking decision.  Quite why they feel it necessary to ban dog training clubs – some of which have been in operation for many years – from using their premises is beyond me.”

Mr Hepburn has been contacted by constituents involved in such clubs who haven informed him that they have been made aware of such a decision.  He will be writing to the Council to seek clarification as to why they have made this decision and request they revisit the matter.

The MSP added: “I would have thought that they would have wanted to encourage responsible dog ownership, but this decision will do the very opposite.  And when the Council is complaining about a lack of available funds, why cut off a source of rental income?

“Hopefully they can revisit this decision, which can only serve to make it much more difficult for these dog training clubs to continue.  If they were to cease operating because of this decision that would be the source of considerable regret.”
