Woman left with minor injuries after Cumbernauld six car pileup

CUMBERNAULD witnessed what could have been a serious vehicle collision. 

Yesterday afternoon (Thursday, 28th March, 2013) seen a six car pileup in a Cumbernauld road, in an incident which saw firefighters use hydraulic cutting gear to free a woman trapped inside her vehicle.

The incident took place on the eastbound M80 the Auchenkilns junction in Cumbernauld, around 4:50pm yesterday.

Two appliances were sent from the town’s community fire station and crews arrived at the scene within minutes.

Firefighters immediately moved to make the vehicles safe and help those involved in the collision. The Strathclyde Fire & Rescue personnel quickly freed the woman, who was trapped by the legs and had suffered ankle injuries.

Fire Service crews passed her to the care of Scottish Ambulance Service paramedics, who took her to Monklands General Hospital. The firefighters remained in attendance as work continued to make crashed vehicles and the general scene safe.
