Cumbernauld households targeted by bogus workers and cold callers

CUMBERNAULD and households throughout Lanarkshire have been warned to be wise when it comes to cold callers, after an increase in bogus workers and cold callers.

Police Scotland has warned households throughout Lanarkshire to air on the side of caution after an increase in the reporting of bogus workers and cold callers. 

To date, incidents have been reported in the Cumbernauld area, although police officials say they will also be operating in the Stepps, Moodiesburn and Chryston areas; warning households throughout Lanarkshire to be on their guard.

Officers have since issued advice to residents and, Constable Michael Duffy has said that the “crocks tend to prey” on the vulnerable.

Constable Duffy said: “The sad fact is that these crooks tend to prey on the most vulnerable people in our communities, including older adults and the infirm.

“These victims can sometimes be subjected to financial lose over long periods before the police are eventually notified. That is why it is important for us all to act as the extra eyes and ears within our local communities.

“Genuine companies will usually make a prior appointment before attending at your home. They may even send you a letter informing you of a time and date. This will give you time to carry out your own inquiries with the relevant company in preparation for their visit.”
