A CUMBERNAULD house fire seen firefighters wear full breathing apparatus to enter a Cumbernauld two-storey property, yesterday.

Firefighters were on scene after 1pm, yesterday, after a blaze broke out at a property in the Eastfield area of Cumbernauld, yesterday afternoon.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews from Kirkintilloch, Kilsyth and Cumbernauld arrived to find a two-storey terraced home on Ben Nevis Way well-alight, with the incident commander ordering four firefighters to don full breathing apparatus and enter the property, to deal with the possibility of people being inside the burning building.

An SFRS spokesperson explained: “Firefighters immediately began searching for anyone inside the house but thankfully no-one was present. They tackled the flames using two high-pressure water jets and quickly brought the blaze under control.

“Crews then started to ventilate the building and began aggressive stripping away of the kitchen, in order to check for signs of fire spread.”

There were no reports of injuries from the incident and an investigation is now under-way, and is being conducted by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service officers.
