CUMBERNAULD College will merge with partners Motherwell College, later this year, with a new name announced by the soon-to-be partnership.

Meeting earlier this week, the Merger Committee of Cumbernauld and Motherwell Colleges agreed the name for the new merged college.

Alex Muirhead, Chair of the Merger Committee said "We would like to thank all those who participated in our search for a new name for the merged colleges and we are pleased to announce the new college name, New College Lanarkshire.

“There was clear consistency in support of the name which the merger committee was happy to endorse."

New College Lanarkshire was chosen following an extensive consultation with stakeholders, and New College Lanarkshire will come into being on 1 November 2013, although the name of the new college has been submitted to the Cabinet Secretary for approval.
