A spokesperson for the Cumbernauld Church of Scotland association – who have five congregations of the Church of Scotland throughout the town said they owed a “huge thank you to everyone” who had helped raise the final total.

The statement adds:  “Our special thanks to the Ladies’ Group for the delicious teas; to Ann Birnie for taking care of the plant sales, with the help of the Men’s Group – the plants went like hot cakes (so to speak!); to everyone who turned up on Wednesday and early on Saturday morning to put up gazebos, tables, etc. and then dismantle it all; and finally, to everyone who turned up and spent their money on a lovely sunny day. Thank you all again.”
