CUMBERNAULD Media reported, on Monday, that organisers behind this year’s annual Gala Day wanted to ensure it was the “best ever”, since it re-launched in 2010.

This week, however, it has been established that the event will be in support of the See Me Scotland campaign; a Scotland-wide alliance of five Scottish mental health organisations, aiming to end the stigma and discrimination of mental ill-health.

Following the announcement that the 2013 Cumbernauld Gala Day was to be in support of the ‘see me’ campaign, See Me Scotland pronounced that they will be in attendance at this year’s Gala Day, and they have appealed for volunteers to help at the event.

“Join the ‘see me’ team in our very own gazebo where we will have a range of activities to attract attention and provide lots of opportunities to talk to people about how they can support ‘see me’ in tackling mental health discrimination,” a spokesperson said. “These events also provide a great opportunity to get out and about and generally raise awareness of what we all can do to support someone who experiences mental ill-health.

“We need volunteers to help with a range of tasks and increase our presence at these events this summer.  We will provide you with a ‘see me’ t-shirt, refreshments and reasonable travel expenses.   These are fun days out and give you the opportunity to make new friends while supporting a cause you believe in.   We will give you lots of support and talk you through your role on the day.  There are a range of options so don’t be shy, everyone has something to offer and the ‘see me’ team will be there to support you!  We are not fundraising at any of these events so you won’t be asking people for money.  Go to our website to sign up or contact us for more information.   We look forward to hearing from you!”

This year’s Cumbernauld Gala Day will take place on Saturday 13th July at Cumbernauld New Town Hall, with the See Me Scotland website enthusiastically proclaiming, “5,000 people are expected at this community gala day.  There will be a parade complete with a pipe band and gala queen carriage at this family friendly community event.  Join us for a day of entertainment including Mr Puffin the balloon modeller!”

Organisers behind the Gala Day have said they are “delighted” that the campaign will be in attendance at the annual regatta.

A spokesperson addressed the day’s Facebook fans to speak of the group’s delight at the See Me campaign’s upcoming “strong presence” at the event.

The post read: “We're delighted the 'See Me' campaign will have a strong presence at this year's Cumbernauld Gala Day following the signing of the 'See Me' pledge by Cumbernauld Community Forum earlier this year.”
