THE community of Abronhill have been invited to the area’s annual regatta, this weekend.

Taking place this Saturday, the event is expected to see many local residents turn out to show their community spirit, as Abronhill continues to fight against the closure of the much loved Abronhill High School – the backdrop to the Scottish cult movie, Gregory’s Girl.

Local residents have been invited to meet at 10am, at Abronhill’s St Lucy's Primary School, to take part in the marching parade to the area’s High School.

Once at Abronhill High School the Gala Day Queen will be crowned at 11am, with a number of additional family friendly events being offered to those who decide to soak up the predicted sunshine.

Before the event, however, the Gala’s organisers have appealed for volunteers to pull up their socks and help make the event a spectacular.

The Abronhill Regeneration Forum – the community group behind the Gala Day – have appealed for volunteers to help run and maintain the event’s games and proceedings, with those willing to lend a hand asked to report to the stage before 11am.

The Met Office predicts that Saturday will see sunny intervals, a top temperature of 19c, with low wind speeds, meaning another day of spectacular sunshine, of which Cumbernauld has been soaking up over the past few days.
