CONDORRAT residents swarmed to St Helen’s Primary two weeks ago for the community’s first gala day in twelve years.

The event was launched by the royal procession which seen Queen Shannon Inglis of Condorrat Primary and accompanies princesses – from Baird Memorial - Courtney Montgomrie and Anna Quinn –Cooper, head down to St Helen’s Primary School in a colourful procession, from Condorrat Social Club, at shortly after 12.30pm.

Escorted by a number of popular cartoon characters, pipers, dancers and local residents, the procession eventually made their way to St Helen’s Primary School where the regatta was kicked off in style with the crowing of the Queen.

Set in the warm Saturday sunshine, the Queen was crowned on stage in front of the primary school’s entrance, by Condorrat business owners Iain and Evelyn Wales.

After the Queen was crowned, attendees to the event soaked up the sunshine, enjoyed live entertainment and were able to enjoy everything from a bouncy castle, a five-a-side tournament, a petting zoo – with everything from rabbits to tarantulas, and stalls.

The organisers behind the gala day are drawn from Condorrat Community Council and Condorrat Tenants and Residents Association, with this year’s event described as successful by the organising committee.

Stacey Egan, Chair of the Condorrat Gala Day organising committee, told Cumbernauld Media the 2013 event was a “welcome comeback” to Condorrat.

“We enjoyed great weather for the event and had a big turnout. All in all I would say it was a welcome comeback to the Condorrat Gala Day.

“We would like to thank Mary Egan for doing the dresses; all of the shops who donated their time and services; the girls’ hairdressers; the Spar – who give us a big donation; and everybody in the village who donated at our day event; as well as everybody on the organising committee.”
