Cumbernauld train services returning to normal

TECHNICAL problems between Cumbernauld and Motherwell have been cleared, Network Rail has said, although commuters should still expect delays.

Network Rail first reported the incident on the route between Motherwell, Whifflet, Coatbridge Central, Greenfaulds and Cumbernauld at 6.32am, this morning, with bus put on to replace affected train services throughout the day. 

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Overhead wire problems are causing disruption between Motherwell and Whifflet.”

Twitter has been buzzing all day with reports of delays and cancellations, although Network Rail have said that train services between Cumbernauld and Motherwell are “returning to normal”, but that service users should expect delays.

The spokesperson continued: “Services are returning to normal however, delays of up to 20 minutes may still occur while services recover.”

Delays were expected to run until 5pm, although no further update has been made available from Network Rail yet.

The spokesperson added: “To find out whether this will impact your journey and to get alternative options planned for you, please use the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner, or call TrainTracker on 0871 200 49 50.”
