NHS Lanarkshire is looking to create additional permanent car parking at Monklands Hospital.

Colin Lauder, NHS Lanarkshire head of planning and development, said: “We have applied for planning permission to turn the current temporary car park, next to the David Matthews Centre, into a larger, permanent parking area.

“If the plans are approved work would take place over the summer and the car park should be completed in October.”

During the building work, the former health Airdrie Health Centre site will be used as a temporary car park to reduce the impact on the site.

Full access to the David Matthews Centre will be maintained throughout the works.

Rhona Roberton, Monklands Hospital general manager said: “If planning permission is granted, the new car park will significantly improve parking for patients, visitors and staff at Monklands Hospital.

"We know it can be difficult at times to park at the hospital and the distress it can sometimes cause to patients who have an appointment to attend.

“The additional spaces will help relieve some of the pressure on parking, particularly on certain days which are busier than others due to clinics.

“There may be some impact on availability of spaces while the work is carried out. The majority of the work will take place during the school holidays to ensure there is minimum disruption however anyone travelling to the hospital should be aware there may be times when parking spaces are limited.

“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause”.
