STUDENTS at Cumbernauld College and Motherwell College have been handed down a challenge – to design the future logo of the soon-to-be New College Lanarkshire institution.

The boards of Cumbernauld and Motherwell College announced on May 23rd 2013 that it was their intention to merge both institutions, after Coatbridge College dropped out of the discussions.

Since the announcement, both institutions have been counting down the days until New College Lanarkshire bursts into live in November, this year, when it will support thousands of students across the Lanarkshire region.

Taking the plans forward, the merged institutions announced, last week, that Martin McGuire – Cumbernauld College’s Principal was appointed as Principal Designate for the proposed New College Lanarkshire.

This week, however, the colleges have announced different plans – to allow students to design some suggestions for the new college’s logo.

Via social networking site, Facebook, Cumbernauld and Motherwell College said that students would see “little change– apart from a new name”, appealing to students that they want every student to “get involved”.

On Facebook, a New College Lanarkshire spokesperson appealed: “We would like to see what you think the new logo should look like, have a go at designing one and have your say on the new college brand.

“Please submit your ideas to or hand in your ideas to any campus reception in an envelope marked Merger Logo with your contact details provided.

“The last date for submissions is Friday 28th June 2013. Good luck!”
