CUMBERNAULD’S green-fingered council tenants are running out of time to blossom, as the North Lanarkshire ‘Your Garden Awards’ judging time approaches.

North Lanarkshire Council’s tenants are being asked to put the finishing touches to their gardens in the coming weeks and to ensure that entries make it to the council by Friday, August 2nd, 2013.

The 'Your Garden Awards' is a free to enter competition that recognises the dedication, passion and hard work of council tenants in improving their gardens.

Open to all North Lanarkshire council tenants in each of the six housing areas - Airdrie, Bellshill/Viewpark, Coatbridge, Motherwell, Wishaw/Shotts and North (Moodiesburn, Kilsyth and Cumbernauld); tenants will have their gardens judged on quality of floral display; quality of permanent planting; quality of design and use of space and contribution to the visual environment.

There is also an award for the Best Individual Garden and a Neighbourhood Award, where neighbours make a combined effort to improve communal areas, and prizes of £50 high street vouchers are up for grabs for winners, together with a certificate of success.

"Every year our awards celebrate the passion and hard work that has created some stunning gardens across North Lanarkshire," explained Mary Castles, Executive Director of Housing and Social Work Services.

"The awards provide tenants with an opportunity to highlight their area and show the real difference well-kept gardens make to the look and feel of local communities.

"I'm always thrilled to see the results of months of hard work by our tenants and look forward to taking a look at this year's entries. I would encourage as many of our tenants as possible to get involved and play their part in our Garden Awards."

Judging will take place in August and the winners will be announced at our annual Tenant Conference, later in the year.
