CUMBERNAULD Gala Day 2013 was a day of live entertainment, music, dance, tea and cakes. However, for one local resident, the day was also a bit hair raising.

For Ms Sinclair, the day will stick around in her memory for years to come after being subject to a close-shave encounter, after Ms Sinclair sat down in front of the main stage to have her entire head of hair shaved off in aid of charity.

The young lady announced her intension at 2pm, on Saturday afternoon, that she would sacrifice her hair in aid of the Cumbernauld YMCA and YWCA, in an attempt to raise hundreds of pounds for the local charity.

Heather Sinclair sat down to have her hair chopped off by her father, a volunteer with the Cumbernauld YMCA and YWCA, whose words were ‘I’ve been waiting a long time to do this’, as he took the scissors to his daughter’s hair.

“It was something I had been thinking about for a long time, and I thought ‘what better charity to do it for than the Cumbernauld YMCA?’ I know that the funds I would raise would, and will, help out so many people in the local area,” Heather told Cumbernauld, after her shaving.

Crowds had quickly gathered to watch Heather be treated to her new, trendy style, in a cutting which told half an hour.

Heather added: “I was hoping to raise about the five hundred mark. I’ll still be taking sponsors for another couple of weeks, but I am around the four hundred mark just now.

“If they want to sponsor me, they can find me on Facebook; Heather Sinclair, and send me a message. Otherwise, people can simply go to the Cumbernauld YMCA directly and collect a form.”

After Ms Sinclair had come to terms with her new look, Cumbernauld Media asked whether she would be sporting a wig anytime soon, she was clear – “I’ll be bald and proud, for a while, until it grows back in”.
