THE transformation of the former Shimla Pinks restaurant into an authentic American diner appears to be nearly complete as Buddy’s confirms that they will open a brand new restaurant in Cumbernauld “within weeks”.

As we reported last Sunday (11th May), Buddy’s Barbeque and Burgers has all but confirmed that they are planning to open a brand new restaurant on Condorrat’s Main Road, with the firm now appealing for interested locals to apply for positions at the soon-to-be restaurant.

At the beginning of this week, however, only about 15 of the some 50 staff positions available remained unfilled, as the chain looks towards opening their fourth branch – in Condorrat.

No planning application or building warrant has been submitted to, or released yet, by North Lanarkshire Council, although the restaurant chain are awaiting the result of a request to transfer over the licenses from the former proprietors, Shimla Pinks.

Presently, Buddy's BBQ & Burgers has three branches; a sit-in diner on Pollokshaws Road, with a takeaway on the same street, and a takeaway in Skiving Street, with a variety of BBQ products, burgers and sides on the menu.

All three branches remain popular with clients, and the chain has racked up a high-level of respect from its customers, with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, on Facebook.

On the group’s Facebook, fans – as well as rating the firm – have been regularly pleading for information surrounding suggestions that the chain were to open in Cumbernauld. And, finally – last Sunday (11th May), the suggestions were confirmed after a banner proclaiming ‘Coming Soon: Buddy’s BBQ, Diner, Grill’ appeared outside the former Dalshannon Firm restaurant.

Buddy’s remained defiant, however, and didn’t release any more information about their plans, only to say that more information would be made available soon.

This week the firm has announced that the new Cumbernauld Buddy’s will open “within weeks”, as long as licensing applications and transfers are given approval.

A spokesman for the company said that the group specialises in “providing an authentic US dining experience,” adding that: “We will bring something high quality and totally authentic to an area which we think is under-provided in terms of quality places to eat out.”

It’s believed that the new restaurant will seat some 60 to 70 people and employ around 50 full-time and part-time staff.

The spokesman added: “We are the real deal, and we will be offering the best burgers available anywhere, because we are the only people serving up hickory-smoked food cooked on the proper equipment.”

As yet, no formal opening date has been announced, but the company has told fans on social media that an announcement will be made “very soon”.

Similar comments were echoed by the firm’s spokesman who told us that the opening date remains unconfirmed, but that the new restaurant could be opening “within weeks”, provided everything goes to schedule.
