CUMBERNAULD Shopping Centre has picked up a national accolade after being recognised for their environmental initiatives.
Cumbernauld Shopping Centre Manager, Robert Barr, has spoken of his mall’s “delight” to have been recognised for their environmental initiatives.
The Centre was announced as a winner at the International Green Apple Awards, in which the Shopping Centre competed against more than 500 other nominations for Environmental Best Practice title.
After taking home the prize, representatives from Cumbernauld Shopping Centre will be presented with their trophy and a certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony in the Houses of Parliament, in London on November 16th.
Cumbernauld Shopping Centre’s winning entry focused on three objectives; reduce the amount of electricity used, improve the ambience of the shopping mall and to assist in achieving ISO 14001 “Environmental Management” status. All of which have successfully been achieved.
Each of the three objectives designated above have been easily achieved with electrical consumption being reduced annually by a significant 30.42%.
Commenting on the win Robert Barr, Centre Manager at Cumbernauld Shopping Centre said: “We’re thrilled to have received this award and really pleased that our continuous efforts and commitment to reducing our impact on the environment has been recognised.
“Everyone who works at the centre has helped contribute to this. We now look forward to attending the awards later this year in November,” he added.
Launched in 1994 by The Green Organisation, The Green Apple Environment Awards have quickly become well-established as one of the most popular environmental campaigns in the world.
