Council outline emergency contacts for Christmas period

AS CHRISTMAS approaches and offices and services start to wind down, North Lanarkshire Council are advising people across Cumbernauld and throughout North Lanarkshire to take note of the key contact details.

The authority has outlined the key details which people will need in order to stay safe and keep in touch with key services and firms over the festive period.

When it comes to council officers, a spokesperson for the council said: “All Council Offices, including First Stop Shops, will be closed to the public on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December 2013 and on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 January 2014.

“All First Stop Shops and Municipal Banks will be open on Friday 27, Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 December 2013 from 11am to 3pm. All other council offices will remain closed on these dates.”

Meanwhile, the council’s main customer services facility, Northline, will be off on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and January 2nd.

The spokesperson added: “The council's customer contact centre is open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to noon Saturday, except 25 and 26 December 2013 and 1 and 2 January 2014.”

North Lanarkshire Council have also outlined the key council contact numbers which people may need over the festive season. They include:

Regeneration and Environmental services - 01698 403110, for cleansing (including special uplifts), road repairs, lighting faults, abandoned vehicles and pest control problems;
Bookings - 01698 403120 for community facilities including community centres, parks and the box office for the Civic Theatre/Concert Hall;
Telephone payments (24/7) - 01698 403130;
Your Money Helpline - 01698 403170;
General enquiries - 01698 403200;
Housing Repairs (24/7) - 0800 678 1166 – North Lanarkshire Council say that only emergency repairs will be dealt with on the 25 and 26 December 2013 and 1 and 2 January 2014
Gas/solid fuel heating repairs - 0845 606 1555
Homelessness - 0800 953 2424
Anti-social behaviour (out of hours) - 0300 123 1382
Social Work Emergency Service - 0800 121 4114

Over the festive season, North Lanarkshire Council will close most of their Registration Offices, although the authority has confirmed that Coatbridge Registration Office will be open on Friday 27, Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 December 2013, between 9am and 4pm. People wishing to contact Coatbridge Registration Office can telephone 01236 856431. Emergency registrations can be arranged with Police Scotland, and people should dial 101 and speak to their local police office for this.

On Waste Management services, a council spokesperson said:  “All household waste and recycling collections (including food collections) scheduled for Wednesday 25 December and Thursday 26 December 2013 will be undertaken on Saturday 28 December and Sunday 29

“December respectively and all household waste and recycling collections (including food collections) scheduled for Wednesday 1 January and Thursday 2 January 2014 will be undertaken on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 January 2014 respectively.

“Services scheduled for Monday 23, Tuesday 24, and Friday 27 December, 2013 will operate as normal. Likewise services scheduled for Monday 30, Tuesday 31 December 2013 and Friday 3 January 2014 will operate as normal.

“A limited special uplift service will operate between Monday 23 December 2013 and Friday 3 January 2014.

“Uplift requests - including the free uplift of real Christmas trees (with all decorations removed) can still be placed during this time by contacting Northline on 01698 403110.

“All waste management services offices will be closed on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December 2013 and Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 January 2014.

“All Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open as normal throughout the period except for Wednesday 25 December 2013 and Wednesday 1 January 2014.”

Outlining how the council’s services in relation to roads and transportation services, the spokesperson said that service requests will be taken through Northline, during office hours, but that out-of-hours emergencies should be reported to the Police.

The spokesperson explained: “During office hours, requests for service should be directed to the council's customer contact centre on 01698 403110 where problems associated with winter conditions can be reported.

“Out-of-hours emergencies should always be reported to the police as the first point of contact.

“North Lanarkshire Council operates a priority system for the treatment of roads and footpaths. Precautionary salting is carried out on all A and B class roads; main distributor roads; main roads in the vicinity of schools; access routes to hospitals, ambulance depots, main police stations and fire stations; main bus routes; and hills steeper than 1 in 10 gradient (10%) on main routes. Post salting is carried out on other roads only if severe conditions persist for a significant period.

“The council also provides grit bins for self-help at specific locations to assist the local community in areas not covered by priority salting.

“Residents can obtain a small supply of salt from the council's main recycling centres, you will need to have your own container.”

If you are due to pay council tax over the festive period and are having difficulty or would look advice to questions or requests, then the council are advising people that confidential help and advice can be received by phoning the council tax debt recovery team on 0800 7314241, during office hours, or by contacting local council tax offices.
