ABRONHILL High School playground was filled by a musical festival of fun and frolic, last Saturday, for this year’s ‘Abronhill Gala Day’ – the last such Gala Day to be held in the grounds of Abronhill High School, as the school building looks set to be demolished later this year.

Last Saturday (14 June) brought the community of Abronhill out in their numbers to enjoy a wide array of funfair rides, musical entertainment, stalls and more, as locals looks set to mark the end of an era, with the demolition of Abronhill High School looming.

Abronhill Regeneration Forum – the group which organises the annual regatta for Abronhill – welcomed the numbers of people turning out to the event, which is the 13th Gala Day to be held in Abronhill.

On the bill for the day’s performances were Nicole Simpson, various singers and bands from Abronhill High School, singers from St. Lucy’s Primary School, Dance Vibez and country-western dancers, from the Abronhill Learning Trust.

Kicking off at 11am on Saturday morning, the sunshine eventually burst through the clouds and the day’s events continued without a single drop of rain, as the residents kept turning up to support the event and Abronhill Regeneration Forum – the group of volunteers behind the Gala.

With local resident Gail Macdonald as compere, the DJ on the decks and a wide variety of things to do, the event carried on until 2:30pm in the afternoon, when the stallholders packed up, the stage was folded away and Marbles – the Cumbernauld horse who is starring in the U.S. tv series Outlander, which is filming in and around Cumbernauld – saddled up and returned to the stable.

A full gallery of our pictures from the day will be available soon, on Cumbernauld Media.
