CUMBERNAULD’S notorious Millcroft Road area was the scene of intensive police activity earlier this evening, after emergency vehicles taped off parts of the street, amid speculation of a serious assault, domestic attack and even rumours of a suicide attempt – none of which has been confirmed or denied by authorities.

At around 8pm, a police vehicle was spotted racing along Lenziemill Road, joining the B8054, before turning left on Kildrum roundabout, onto South Carbrain Road.

Local residents and drivers living or passing by the scene suggested to Cumbernauld Media earlier this evening that both ambulance crews and police officers were at the scene of the incident.

Emergency crews continue to remain on scene at the time of this article’s publication, with an area of grass outside of the Millcroft Road flats, on South Carbrain Road, taped off.

At soon after 8pm, police officers were seen searching the grass, as more police officers arrived every minute.

Local sources reported to Cumbernauld Media that an emergency Scottish Ambulance response vehicle and one police patrol vehicle were parked on South Carbrain Road, next to the infamous Millcroft Road flats, at approximately 8pm.

The Scottish Ambulance Service’s emergency response vehicle left the scene at shortly after 8.20pm, however, while an emergency ambulance remained at the scene until much later.

Our reporters at the scene confirmed that the paramedic from the emergency ambulance entered a property in Millcroft Road, with an oxygen tank, while multiple plain-clothed C.I.D. officers arrived, replacing the uniformed response which taped off a grassy knoll behind one of the Millcroft Road flats.

Cumbernauld Media understands that only one uniformed police officer remains on guard on the grass knoll behind the block of flats, while C.I.D. officers seem to heading in and out of a property in the street.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland could not confirm what was happening at the scene, instead she could only confirm that it was an “ongoing incident”.

Meanwhile a spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed to Cumbernauld Media that they did indeed “attend a house in the Millcroft Road area of Cumbernauld”, but that it was a “routine call”, with no further information available.

There has been no confirmation of what actually happened, yet. Picture: courtesy of Bill Henry.
