THE BODY of a man was discovered in the Abronhill area of Cumbernauld earlier today (17 December) – just 15 days after a suspected suicide in the same area.

Police Scotland has confirmed that the body of a male was discovered on Forrest Road, in the Abronhill area of Cumbernauld.

Reports on social media suggest that the body was found close to the Medlar Road underpass – while Police could only confirm the body was found near Forrest Road – the same stretch of road where the body of another male was discovered earlier this month.

At the time of the first incident, Police said that there were “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding the incident – although on this occasion, Police Scotland has confirmed that “enquiries are ongoing”.

Earlier this afternoon, parts of Abronhill’s Forrest Road – which circles Abronhill – were closed off as Police launched an investigation into the incident. Diversions were then put in place – diversions which remain in place at this time, Cumbernauld Media understands.

At 1:30pm, this afternoon, Police Scotland said in a statement that: “There is an ongoing police incident on Forrest Road, Abronhill. Diversions have been put in place. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Since then, Police Scotland has confirmed the exact nature of the incident, with a spokesman for Police Scotland confirming that the gruesome discovery was made at 11:40am, this morning.

“At around 1140 hours this morning the body of a man was recovered in Forrest Road, Cumbernauld,” the spokesman explained.

He added: “Enquiries are at an early stage, and Police officers remain on the scene.”
