POLICE Scotland are advising motorists to find alternative routes after a traffic accident earlier this morning, on Cumbernauld's main road - Central Way.

Numerous officers are in attendance at the scene, which has seen the both the East and West bound carriageways of the A8011 Central Way, into and returning from Glasgow, blocked off.

Two Police vehicles remain on scene at the moment, with the cars involved understood to be a Toyota Avensis and a Honda Jazz.

At this time, Cumbernauld Media understands the Toyota to be sitting across both sides of the carriageway, after coming into contact with the central reservation, just underneath the Tummel Way footbridge.

It's not clear whether there were any casualties, and it's not known how long the road will be closed off for, as investigations continue.
